Quarterback Friday

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 21, 2009

qbfI’ve been waiting all week for this, and now I’m turning in my work past 9:30 at night. I’m pathetic. Anyway, I have been waiting all week to say this…

BRETT FAVRE IS THE MOST ANNOYING PLAYER IN THE NFL.

You know, he’s not the only one in this though, the Vikings put this in his face and he couldn’t resist. He’s not the only one to blame but he’s getting the most blame – you should’ve said no, Farve…You should’ve said no.

You know, not to long ago I was proud of Favre. I was proud because he said NO. Guess what, he changed his mind – AGAIN – and said yes. Why, Favre? Sure your an NFL legend, sure you’ve broken all the records, and yes your an easy HOFer. But quite honestly, I’m tired of seeing ya’ – go down to Mississippi and stay away from the NFL.

Enough of Favre, lets see what the Vikings are doing here. They had Tarvaris Jackson, who did better (numbers wise) than Brett Favre. Then they picked up the always underrated talent of Sage Rosenfels. Lets count, they had 2 very reasonable starters here. Yet they still cry for Favre. That’s not cool. You don’t just shun Jackson and Sage like that, they were fine and now you’ve practically crushed their season. I remember Sgae saying he was very excited in battling for position with Tarvaris.

I’m going generic with my question again this week:

Do you like Brett being back?

I think I’ve expressed my opinion enough on the question…I DO NOT like Favre being back. He waits till the end of camp to do all this. He reminds me of the 9 year old that says, “Dad, do I have to go to practice?” Then dad says, “If you want to play you do.” Then Brett the nine year old say, “But I don’t feel like it,” then goes and cries about it.

Anyway, thanks for reading QB Friday – See ya’ next week!

A very late QB Friday

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 18, 2009

qbfThis was the hardest decision of my life…choosing who to pick for QB Friday. I was at a loss. It was either going to be Alex Mortensen being released by the Titans or Mike Vick signing with the Eagles. Obviously, Alex had the early edge. But, I decided to mix things up and go with the lesser story – and that was Vick returning to the league. Call me crazy, but I did.

Nah, I’m just messin’ with ya! But seriously, Alex Mortensen – ESPN’s Chris Mortensen’s son – was released by the Titans after playing only 3 snaps in the HOF game. Anyway, it’s obvious that Vick was going to this weeks Quarterback. I already expressed how interested I was in the story on bleedeaglesgreen.com. FYI, it was a lot of interest.

Just know this, I’m not a Vick hater. I’m a Wildcatlover. And I still have memories of DeSean throwing to the wrong team in the Wildcat. I like the Eagles, so I don’tlike DeSean Jackson throwing to the wrong team.

You know, in the more serious look of things – everyone deserves a second chance. Yes, EVERYONE. He’s done his time and should be coming back.

Now as for the NFL view of things, you HAVE to like this. Vick was the most exciting player to watch ever. He was awesome. He was the Wildcat before the Wildcat. Not saying he could be that again, just sayin’ he was. He brought a new dimension to the game and he’s going to change the Wildcat. A whole new playbook will be drawn up for Vick. It’ll be a playbook that opens up the careers for players like Pat White, Vince Young, and maybe even Tim Tebow.

Like I said in the Philly blog, I don’t believe he’s in any condition to play right now. He’ll need to start working up the ladder, and he’ll have to know his role. He won’t take McNabb’s job. They’ll have to add a position to the depth chart, “WILDCAT.” And that’ll be Vick’s role.

You know what I wonder? I wonder if it has been Philly all along. You know what mean? I’m talking about when Vick said he was close to signing about three weeks ago. Something in my head says it’s not, but there’s no way for us to know. I think it’s a good question, though.

Usually, this is the part of the segment that I ask you an opinion question – but I don’t have one. I have some questions but none of them are any good. Guess I’ll have to generic:

Did Vick get paid to much? The deal says he gets 1.6 for first year then he has the option at a second year for 5.2 million.

You know, I was a little surprised. He is getting an option at 5.2 million. The number seems a little high for me. Maybe I’m not thinking clearly. But honestly, there’s a chance he may never be good again. Yet, you give him the choice at getting 5.2 million in a year. I don’t know, I just wasn’t expecting the payment to be in the 5 mill area.

So, that was this weeks QB Friday, hope to see you next week!

PS: Good luck Vick!

I’m Going to Have Trouble Waiting Till Friday

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 18, 2009

qbfI walked out of the school, got on the bus, and turned on my phone – same routine everyday. I turn it on and just wait for about ten seconds…I get message number one, half a second later I got message number two. I wait till it stops, and today’s magic number was 15.

In those 15, about 10 were about the same exact old man – Brett Favre. I thought,”Wow, this guy is really trying to taint his career.” The next thing I thought was good ‘ole QB Friday, I had my story and it was only Tuesday. Then I noticed the bad part about it being Tuesday, now I have to wait till Friday to post a Brett Favre story! I know what your thinking…Why not post it now? If I did that, what would call it? QB Tuesday? First I’d be Tuesday then I’d start doing it early every week! We’d have to just call it QB random day! I’d have to make seven different logos and everything! So I ain’t doing that!

But really, I’m not going to like the wait for Friday.

You know something, the American Sports Blog never got last weeks edition of QB Friday. I wrote it at a school computer and forgot to transfer it from my personal blog to this one. So, I’m going to have to hit you with it in this next post…

Twas a month before football

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 11, 2009

Well, technically it has already started, but I ain’t talking about sissy little preseason. I’m talking full-blown, regular season NFL Football! And I’m pumped! This is gonna’ be an amazing year, I can see it already. And I am ready for it!

This will be a great year for all my teams. My hometown Titans will prove all the doubters wrong. San Diego will own the pitiful AFC West. And Philly has the talent to take the NFC Title (And maybe more) Home! Heck, all my teams have a shot at the Superbowl!

I just love football, plain and simple. I love the trash-talk, I love the tail-gating, and I love seeing the rookies. This is America’s game right here, it brings us together. We all love it – even the Lions’ fans.

I also don’t want you to forget about the College Football season. Because in all reality, I enjoy NCAAF more than NFL. Lets face it, college football is king in the south. I’m more excited than ever to see my ‘Dores in football. I love the SEC air. Nothing compares to Southeastern football. I’m also hoping to see the ‘CUSE make a turn-around in their football program. College football is another level of fan-hood. We simply love our team - A bond the NFL is yet to meet.

Yes, some will disagree, but the NFL doesn’t reach the fan-hood of the NCAA. Because there is more ban-wagon jumpers as far as the NFL goes.

Looking back at the big picture, football is almost here. So, be ready for one heck of a season!

Quarterback Friday: Eli’s PayDay

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 7, 2009

Hey, and welcome to QB Friday…However late it must be. Well, to start off I had school. Then it was random crap just setting me off. But Nevertheless, I am here! And ready for Quarterback Friday.

As you can tell by the title, I choose Eli as QB of the week. For the record, Vick was second place – for the second week in a row. Anyway, this week I’m talking about Eli and his new money. Big money. Even more than big-bro, Peyton.

And who really saw this coming? I didn’t, to start things off. My ESPN-Junky uncle, Cody, says he was over-paid. He also said that the ESPN guys said he was over-paid. I’m going to take his word for it, but I’m not passing out that info as 100% true.

The thing I like about this story, is that it gives me an easy opinion question of the week. The downfall is, it’s not a very original question, you see it EVERYWHERE.

The question would be, Who’s better, Eli or Peyton.

Here’s the part where I give my opinion…Do it every week. Just as I have a question every week.

Anyway, I’m going to have to say Eli is better…. YEAH RIGHT! Peyton is better, regardless of what the contracts are saying. Peyton Manning – at the time – is better than Eli, it’s one of the world’s simple facts.

Saying Eli is better than Peyton is like saying…

LT is better than Walter Peyton

or

Kobe Bryant is better than Jordan

I’m sure you see where I’m going. Anyway, I think I’ve summed this up. See ya’ next week!

Wednesday Round-Up

Posted by Jace Puckett on August 5, 2009

Hello, and welcome to a latter edition of Wednesday Round-Up. Today I’m talk on Raven’s Wideouts, Eli Manning, and a preview of Quarterback Friday.

RAVENS’ RECIEVERS

On the same day last week,  touched on this subject. But now I’m touching it again. Because, Derrick Mason is back! Yes this is old news, but it has to be – unless I had a “Sunday Round-Up.”

Here’s a quick list of some of Baltimore’s latest actions:

  1. July 13, Mason(Former Titan) Retires
  2. July 24, Bennet(Former Titan) Signs
  3. July 27, Bennet Retires (Still Former Titan)
  4. July 28, Biren Ealy Signs (You guessed it, former Titan)
  5. August 1, Mason Retires (Rememer, Former Titan)

Yes, I had to throw in the Titans ordeal. Anyway, I love Derrick Mason, it’s good to see him back.

ELI MANNING

I want to know who he told first, Daddy or his big brother. 6-year, 97.5 million dollar deal. That’s some big money – and puts him up at the top of the league. His average salary will be in the over 15 mill. area. Here’s the thing, big brother is getting 14.1 a year.

So, wait? Little brother is making more than big bro. Not just any big bro – Peyton Manning. Raises the question, is Eli better than Peyton? I’ll save that for another story…QB Friday, perhaps?

QB FRIDAY

Well, I have it narrowed down. I could talk on Eli’s big money. I could go Eli vs Peyton. Or go back to Vick “almost signing.” Anyway, I’ll see you Friday.

Quarterback Friday: Favre is gone?

Posted by Jace Puckett on July 31, 2009

Quarterback FridaysNow, on the Wednesday Round-Up I said I was undecided as far as Quarterback Friday. And if you couldn’t tell by the title, I went with the retired one.

We all know the news by now, Favre is “staying retired”, believe it or not. I’m mad too, it’s much easier to write a story about a HOF QB coming out of retirement, than a guy that made no real move at all. Still, I’m not so sure th Fat Lady has sung just yet. The door is still open for a return.

To be honest, I’m surprised – I really saw Brett pulling another return. But hey, you don’t know till you know. Now I know, and I was wrong. I’m not the only one that made a wrong prediction. ESPN’s own John Clayton said he was go into return – and he said that about a month ago. Anyway, we can all make the wrong call.

Now I’m going to ask for an opinion. Does Favre going to the Jets change your opinion of him? What I’m asking is, does Brett pulling all these shenanigans change your view of him. Because before all this, if I heard Brett Favre I thought Packers. Now, I think of him as a decisive and somewhat annoying QB. I still see Packers at heart. But the stint as a Jet will taint that vision.

Anyway, that was today’s QB Friday. Comment, or don’t. Just hope you enjoyed it.

Quarterback Fridays: Vick is back

Posted by Jace Puckett on July 24, 2009

Quarterback FridaysHello, and welcome to he first edition of Quarterback Friday.

And, although the picture tells of Brett Favre, today I’m on the topic of Michael Vick.

So, for anyone who didn’t know, Vick met with Goodell just yesterday. Discussing reinstatement, obviously. And guess what? Reinstatement exactly what went down. Vick is back.(I have a feeling I’ve already said that).

Vick fans rejoice, Vick haters just keep on hating. We all have different opinions on him as a person. But no matter what your opinion is, you have t admit th guy was on heck of ’a player. Still, he’s loss some talent – there’s no way he couldn’t have. But hey, maybe he can gt his mojo back. And hopefully get a better reputation.

Now, about 3 months ago, made a post on the perfect place for Vick – New England. Say though, I made the mistake of deleting that blog. I regret it, because I feel that was on of my best early post. I say early because that’ when I started blogging.

Back topic, I want to know what you think about Vick being back. Just leave a little comment. If you don’t know how to do that, just click HERE.

But before you do that, I’m gonna’ leave my opinion:

Now, understand I don’t hate or love Michael Vick. What he did was cruel and horribly wrong. I love dogs, had one in all my 14 years. Still, he deserves a second chance. Everyone does. And if he dose pull off this comeback – think of how what inspiring story this will be. To me, it’d say: You can always turn your life around. And if he doesn’t pull it off…this was another sad waste of talent.

Not to mention, I’d like to see Vick play again. He’s the most exciting player that I’ve ever seen.

Anyway, if you want the facts, Vick can sign with any team and can play all preseason games. But, he has to sit out the first 4 games of the regular season. Not that it would matter, Vick isn’t starting right off the back – suspension or not.
